This morning's announcement comes just two weeks after the Giller Foundation announced a pair of new initiatives.
"One of the reasons I joined Book Clubs for Inmates is because I was so pleasantly surprised that Giller Prize winners and nominees were part of the basic makeup of a lot of the book clubs," says Tom Best, BCFI's executive director.
More than 500 figures in the Canadian literary world took part in the boycott.
"We wanted to highlight independent booksellers and the important role they play in the literary community."
This is, to put it mildly, a difficult time for an arts organization to be chasing funding.
Two jurors – Jordan Abel and Aaron Tucker – have been quietly scrubbed from the Giller Prize website.
"It’s clear that the lines between what is public and what’s private has been blurred," said Elana Rabinovitch.
"I would turn your attention back to the role of literature in situations like this, which is to interrogate hate and certitude and ideas that people are conflicted about."
With fully three-fifths of the nominations, the Giller shortlist continues the hot streak for Penguin Random House Canada.
